Since 1996 the Museum Berggruen resides in Berlin opposite the Charlottenburg Palace in a neoclassical building, designed by the Prussian architect and builder Friedrich August Stüler. As more exhibition space was required, the museum has expanded to the neighbouring building, which once served as the commandant's quarters for the Prussian military. The new architectural element, the 22 meter long pergola made of steel and glass, connects the two historical exhibition houses and allows an impressive view on the newly created sculpture garden in the public courtyard of the museum.
